Walking through the mall the other day I suddenly saw something very familiar in a shop display.

A couple of items I have worked on are now for sale in the children's clothing store, Pumpkin Patch!

7 weeks!

7 weeks left before Christmas how exciting! A friend and I (Gemma) are in the process of making a few printed Christmas cards to possibly sell at a local market. First of all it is important to get a theme going so the designs look like a nice wee family!

A possible theme we are working on right now is 'geometric Christmas'

Drawing and designing

Lately I have been stuck in a kind of design rut. 

There is so much good design out there that I find it hard sometimes to do anything creative. 

I have come to realise that scouring the internet and looking at all this good design is not helping me become
a better designer at all. I once heard somebody say "Design porn will make you blind" so right now I am having an "inspiration" break and i'm just going to draw, design and doodle without comparing myself to everybody
else out there!

Beci Orpin was by far my favorite speaker from the Melbourne Semi-Permanent, i found her talk very inspiring and i am totally jealous of her life!
Beci is a designer/ illustrator based in Melbourne, Australia. She runs her own business freelancing and also has an online shop selling cute homewares under her own name.

Beci has a book coming out in November called find & keep and i can't wait to get my hands on it!

Summer is coming!

Even though it is still quite cold here at the moment, the sun is shining and i am starting to get into Summer mode! Drinking quite a bit of Rekorderlig cider, my favorite strawberry and lime yum! New Summer shoes and ice cream cones in Redcliffs!

Music in a Country Garden

The Canterbury Charity Hospital Trust is having another fundraising event after the Family Fun Day event was so successful! 

This time the event will involve a lovely afternoon in the gardens of Abbottsburn with Classical music and Opera including a Devonshire Tea with pimms and raffles for purchase. 

Tickets are only $25 so get in quick to avoid disappointment!

New Logo

I thought i would change up the logo to this page a little bit. Hopefully when I get some more time i'll try something completely different

Body Glove Packaging

As part of my job at McPhails Sports I get to design graphics for an International brand, Body Glove. Over the past few weeks I have been working on the package design for a set of water sport gear including Snorkels and dive masks. Being a brand that is sold at The Warehouse here in New Zealand the design had to reflect affordability and quality as well as displaying all product specs in a clear manner. 

Oh dear.. sorry about the photos but you get the idea, there are three age groups, junior in orange, Youth in green and adult in red.

These should be for sale at the Warehouse very soon so keep an eye out!

Melbourne!

I have been so busy lately I haven't updated in a long time! Next week I will put some of my work up, until then here are some photos from a recent weekend in Melbourne. 

Melbourne is such an exciting city, especially for a designer so it is no surprise that I was starting to envision myself living there... hmmm not for a few years though.

Weekend!

Self Promotion

A small self promotional piece that can be sent away with C.V and portfolio work, designed to grab attention and stand out from other applicants. My design is a pop-up including an illustration of me and a push-pull lever with the words "I might surprise you"

Aztec...

After seeing some cool aztec style patterns around lately i decided to design some aztec jandals! 

The same pattern in different colour combinations give quite different effects.  Purple for girls, Blue for guys!

Found one of the signs i designed on Cranford Street. This is one of the smaller signs now i just need to hunt down one of the larger scale signs!

Canterbury Charity Hospital

A poster i designed to go up for the Canterbury Charity Hospital Trust Family Fun Day.

The event is in March and held at the Arion Farm Park in Harewood, Christchurch.

A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Canterbury Charity Hospital’s new facility for counselling, dental services and an endoscopy suite at 351 Harewood Road

The Family fun day includes:

·      Barbeque lunch

·      Coffee & Refreshments

·      Craft and produce stalls

·      Music & entertainment

·      Hand feed the animals

·      Pony rides

·      Horsemanship and dog handling displays

·      Classic country games for the kids
